AT only 18 years old, rapper Scumie is making big moves in Mzansi and internationally.
She has been chosen as the January cover of Apple Music’s Rap Life Campaign, which has featured major artists such as American rappers Nicki Minaj and 21 Savage and South African rappers like Cassper Nyovest and Nasty C.
The Rap Life Campaign is Apple Music’s flagship hip-hop playlist.
The Midrand-born star, whose real name is Zamazitha Mnqandi, said it’s an honour for her to be part of the campaign.
“When I was told, I didn’t know what to say. Instead, I was asking why me. I remember looking at Nicki Minaj’s Rap Life cover, and I wished that would be me. Manifestation happened, and I got an email letting me know that I’d be on the cover. I was shocked because I never thought it would come now.
“I really love the rap life playlist. I’m a trap girl and if I need to go look for new music, I go to that playlist. So, I felt an immense amount of gratitude to hear that this was happening to me,” she said.
Scumie just released a new single, which is making waves on TikTok.

The song, titled Shots, was released on 5 January.
“When I made this song, I didn’t make it with the intention of releasing it. It was just going to be a SoundCloud archive. I also posted a snippet of the song on TikTok, and someone found it. It became popular, and people even started using it in their videos.
“They then asked that I release it. In my head, I was skeptical because I felt like it wasn’t engineered properly. But we gave people what they wanted and released it,” she said.
Scumie is working on an album featuring some of Mzansi’s finest rappers and producers.
“Right now, I've started my rollout for my debut album titled 815. We’ll release lead singles from January to June, and from June, we’ll promote the whole album, bringing up the hype. There’s MashBeatz, Moe da Goat, Blxckie Indigo Stella and maybe a feature from the King of Gqom, DJ Lag.
“I’ll also feature young and upcoming rappers and producers. I feel like it’s going to come together so well, and we’ll have different sounds. And from the features I can say that it is going to be a big album,” Scumie said.
