Having joined a new team, one of Manchester United's recent targets has now revealed why he rejected a move to Old Trafford in this window.

The Red Devils are expected to conduct more business in the transfer window, with the club reportedly looking to complete at least 11 more deals before the 1 September deadline

The goalkeeping department is said to be an area they would like to further strengthen following the arrival of Cameroon international Andre Onana as David de Gea's replacement.

It is understood manager Erik ten Hag wants a capable No. 2 in the squad, with Dean Henderson highly likely to leave the club permanently this month.

Japanese star Zion Suzuki was earmarked to be that candidate, with the Premier League giants said to have agreed a fee with Suzuki's parent club Urawa Reds for his signature.

However, the US-born goalkeeper rejected the move, opting to join Belgian Pro League side Sint-Truidense on loan instead, and the 20-year-old has now explained why.

"It's true that there was an offer from Manchester United," Suzuki said, according to Goal.

"As a football player and as a person, if I hadn't thought about anything, of course I would like to go to Manchester United.

"But among them, I really want to spend time thinking about what kind of future awaits me. After much thought, I made this decision.

"Manchester United have acquired Onana. It's important for me to participate in matches, and I think it is also important to play on the world stage.

"I want to make the most of what I have learned here and do my best."
