THE Metro FM Music Awards are set to take place on Freedom Day in 2024.
This was announced during the launch at Kruger Gate Hote in Mpumalanga on Thursday night, 18 January.
The SABC’s biggest commercial radio station launched the much-anticipated 2024 installment of its flagship and music awards ceremony where South African music will be awarded and celebrated.
SABC group executive Nada Wotshela said the MMAs will be hosted by Mpumalanga Provincial Government in Mbombela.
“The awards have matured to become a key driver of local tourism for the host province. We are forever grateful to the Mpumalanga province for affording us this opportunity to give back to our listeners,” she said.
Nada said it's quite fitting that this year's awards ceremony is hosted on Freedom Day as music has always played an integral part in influencing and shaping urban culture in South Africa.

“What an ad way of celebrating our freedom of expression especially for the artists who are free to create and thrive in a free society,” she said.
She said the ceremony will be celebrating 18 years of recognising South African talent and supporting the South African music industry.
Nada said that this year’s awards will be sponsored by the Motsepe Foundation.
She said they'll continue to reveal other partners and category sponsors in due course.
Godfrey Ntombela, HOD Culture, Sport and Recreation said the Mpumalanga government takes pride in the recorded milestone of its partnership with the SABC.
“Through the Metro FM Music Awards, which we introduced last year, we have invested massively in the creative industry and has boosted the growth of the tourism sector. The awards were a huge success, and this confirms Mpumalanga as a province with a capacity to host big events,” he said.
Submissions from artists and record labels as MMA finalists are open on metrofmmusicawards.co.za, and they will be followed by the finalist’s announcement event, the voting phase and a series of activations that will culminate into the main awards ceremony.
