MASKANDI king Khuzani Mpungose is bowing out from entering awards and competitions, for now.
The multi-award winning Khuzani, who owes his winnings to his loyal fans, has now asked them not to nominate him for future awards and competitions.
The 34-year-old from Nkandla, KZN who recently divided the nation when he won the Ukhozi FM Ingoma Ehlukanisa Unyaka with almost a million votes, said he was now giving others a chance.
When his song Umjolo Lowo was played as number one on Ukhozi FM during the cross over from 2023 to 2024, some people were angry because they'd wanted Khuzani's rival, Mthandeni Manqele's hit song Paris to win or Dlala Thukzin's song iPlan.
Khuzani, who also won Best Maskandi at the 2023 Samas, has scooped Ukhozi FM Ingoma Ehlukanisa Unyaka twice as he also won it in 2021. He defeated Mthandeni’s Amageja and Big Zulu's Imali Eningi.
He said it was clear no musician would win if he continued to compete for awards or competitions. This because the support from his many loyal fans allowed him to win every time.
“My fans don’t talk too much but when they vote. They vote to win. That's why I decided to bow down for now and give others a chance. I'll see which talented musician is nominated in competitions, and I'll ask my fans to vote for that person,” he said.

Khuzani said by eliminating himself, he was paving the way for others to shine.
“I just realised that there's no musician who can win if he/she is competing with me in the competition. Winning of the same person just decreases the hype of the competition.
"I noticed that there'll be many musicians who'll get fame only to lose it without having achieved any award because I’m taking it all,” he said.
In 2020 Khuzani surprised many when he scooped KZN’s Most Loved Awards beating DJ Tira, Black Coffee, Sjava, Pearl Thusi, Nomzamo Mbatha, Minnie Dlamini, Nasty C, Ricky Ricky, Robert Marawa, as well as Somizi Mhlongo in the category.
He has won many awards including song of the year, best-selling, and best album in Amantshontsho kaMaskandi, as well as Samas twice.
