THEATRE actress Mbali Ngidi is grateful that she has been able to spread her wings to music and embracing the opportunity to spread her wings in both realms.
The 34-year-old artist from Osindisweni, north of Durban has worked with Mzansi’s top playwrights such as the late Mbongeni Ngema, Duma Ndlovu and Edmund Mhlongo.
After she was featured by DJ Mngadi on his song titled Thando Lwethu in 2022, she released her debut track Xola Moya Wam.
She said on the song she pays tribute to her late mother, Delisile Ngidi, who died in February 2023.
Mbali told Daily Sun that her mum wanted her to be a nurse, but she turned her down and followed her dreams.

“My mother worked at Osindisweni Hospital for many years as a general worker and she wanted me to also work in the hospital as a nurse, but I told her that I’m not brave enough to face what is happening in the hospital and I get easily hurt when I see injured and ill people. She understood, and she supported me when I started my journey as a theatre actress,” she said.
Mbali said in 2016 she was auditioned by Ngema for a role on Sarafina, and they toured France in 2017.
She said while she was busy with theatre, she was also recording some music in the backyard studios and making some music videos.
“After Mlamuli Nxele watched one of my videos, he was impressed. He took me to DJ Mngadi to work with him.
“In 2022, DJ Mngadi featured me on his song and this year he decided to help me release my debut song featuring Mlindo The Vocalist and GoonFlavor,” she said.
Mbali said one day she would love to appear on TV, but her passion is in theatre.
