WHEN Niikiey joined Idols SA, she wasn’t in a good space.

However, she came out of the competition with a thick skin.

The 18-year-old from Vosloorus in Ekurhuleni, whose real name is Niki Kubheka, was eliminated in the Top 5 of Idols SA season 19.

She said she always had passion for music but never thought she would join a singing competition.

“There was someone who pushed me to join Idols. I am not going to take the credit. A guy called Kgothatso told me that Idols is coming to an end, and he thought I would do great. I wasn’t in a good space in my life and thought, let me just try it out,” she said.

Niikiey said her journey hasn’t been easy on the singing competition, but it was amazing none the less.

“Whatever I went through mentally and emotionally throughout this journey was worth it because I feel like I have grown not only musically but character wise,” she said.

The singer said she has grown a thick skin.

“I have also told myself that from being an impatient person, I am now patient. I am able to consider other people’s feelings. When I am on that stage, I understand that I am not only doing that for myself but for the people who love and appreciate me,” Niikiey said.

She said when people were bashing her on social media, it prepared her for when she got out of the show.

“It’s not everybody who is going to like me, and I guess I had to start where I am right now in order for me to continue to pursue my career,” she said.

Niikiey said she won’t give up on music and has to push whether she likes it or not.

She thanked her fans and supporters who voted for her.

“To anyone who has a goal or a dream, never be afraid of taking the first step. I also didn’t think I would make it this far, I took a chance and here I am. I know and believe that it will open doors for me,” she said.
