A METRO award winner fears social media.

Songwriter and singer Basetsana Maluleke, better known as Bassie, told Daily Sun that she's terrified of social media and backlash.

The vocalist recently won a Metro FM award for Best Music Video alongside Aymos and T-Man SA for their hit song, Izenzo.

“What keeps me grounded is social media. I'm scared of social media. I'm scared of bad publicity with my heart. I'd rather keep it down and work through my stuff, and people will know me through my music.”

The singer from Limpopo, now based in Ekurhuleni, said she didn't expect to win the award.

“I didn’t expect it. We were behind the stage, getting prepared. We couldn’t hear. We had to watch the screen. We ran, and we could not believe it. It's a blessing, honestly."

Bassie said they worked day in and day out even though she wasn’t well at some point.

She also pointed out that Aymos pushed her to shoot the video.

“The journey was very difficult. Firstly, I didn’t want to record. I didn't want to work. I felt sick the whole of last year. Aymos pushed me to work, and he wanted to do a two-way phone call video because people can’t differentiate our voices. We did not expect it to big as it is today.”

The 23-year-old said you can describe her with two words: intelligent and bubbly.

She also mentioned that her fans can expect new music from her.

“Right now, I'm working on a single titled Welanga with Ranger featuring LeeMcKrazy and Tman Express.”

Bassie mentioned that she started singing in a choir from grade 1 to matric, including at university.

She also said she didn't want to sing amapiano.

“We don’t have a musical background. No one in my family can sing. I don’t know how I'm able to sing. I just started singing because I wanted to be like Beyonce. I then started singing at school, and everyone was amazed.”
