Idol's season 19 top four was announced on Saturday.
Idol's season 19 top four was announced on Saturday.

THE top four of Idols season 19 were announced last night, Saturday 14 October, at the live show at Mosaiek in Fairlands, Joburg.

The show opened with Come Together by The Beatles, which was performed by the top five group.

American musician and songwriter PJ Morton made a guest appearance, and Maglera Doe Boy sang her new song So lonely.

PJ Morton said it was his first time in Mzansi.

"I'm enjoying myself. It’s been nothing but love. All the time we’ve been here, I really like it," Morton said.

He said there is so much talent and potential in all the Idols contestants.

"I have had the pleasure of working with them," he said.

This week’s theme was a playlist of PJ Morton songs that he listens to for relaxation, and the top four performed each song.

Princess kicked things off with a rendition of On & On by Erykah Badu.

Somizi said she had found a friend in him and Thembi said she was also excited when she was announced among the top four.

JR said he could not fault the performance.

"Well done and congratulations, great performance," he said.

He was followed on stage by Nkosi who sang John Legend’s Ordinary People.

Thembi said he was happy for him, and JR said it was a great performance.

"You really come from sales, well done Nkosi," JR said.

Somizi said confidence is an internal thing and Nkosi has internalised it and it shows.

Faith followed with a rendition of Musiq Soulchild’s Love.

JR said this was not a top four performance.

"It was not a great performance. I don’t think it qualifies for the top four," he said.

Somizi said Faith is where Nkosi was two weeks ago, emotionally.

"Something is weighing too heavily on your heart, and I can tell you that it affects your performance. That is human nature, but the show must go on," he said.

Last in the top four was Thabo, who sang Kiss by Prince.

Somizi said he enjoyed the fact that he performed in different forms and styles.

"Thabo, what will make you a successful musician is to be yourself, to express your honesty. Stand by that and you will make it, not just locally but internationally," he said.

Thembi said he belonged on stage.

"I get so excited when you come on stage that I even forget to listen to your singing," she said.

JR said he delivered once again.

"You can sing whatever you want, that’s how great you are. You are so versatile," he said.
