HELEN Keller once said: “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.”

This is the level VW is operating on with its cars, including the 2022 Polo Sedan Life.

I had the opportunity to test drive it for a few weeks and like any other VW product, it was an adventure.

Its external design is sharp and shiny – just like its most-loved siblings, with greatly designed LED headlamps at the front and rear. The 16-inch alloys complete the side look, adding beauty to dynamic lines running through doors from front to rear.

The interior of the Polo Sedan Life is bliss, complete with a bright dash, seats, floor and the roof. The cream dash and a greatly positioned infotainment system make being inside this car bliss.

While the cream interior makes the car look fantastic, that joy is quickly squashed when you realise that seats are covered in fabric and every move, especially from kids, will leave it dirty. Even cheap or fake leather could have made things easier.

The Polo Sedan Life has some class that makes up for the missing zest. It has everything a modern driver wants, and is quite roomy and comfortable for all occupants – thanks to its long chassis. And, it has a boot space of 521L, which makes you wonder who needs an SUV if you have so much space in a small-medium car.

The Life version is powered by a 1,6L petrol engine with four-cylinder mated with a six-speed auto transmission with 81kW of power and 152Nm torque. In simple terms, once it gets into higher gears, it reminds you that it is a sister to the GTI as it takes off at the traffic lights.

Interestingly, while you don’t get the attention you would when driving the Golf 8 R, you still turn a few heads.

This might be the most expensive sedan in its segment but it will give the competition a good run by not compromising on beauty, comfort and performance.

The only missing feature was a sunroof, which changes the atmosphere of the car and would work well in this one.
