VOLKSWAGEN’S T SUV model range is selling like hot cakes in Mzansi.
From January to November this year, the brand sold a total of 58 822 vehicles in the local market.
Volkswagen South Africa said its performance in the first 11 months of 2022 was bolstered by a growing affinity for the T SUV model range.
In a statement, head of the Volkswagen passenger car brand Steffen Knapp said they had increased sales in the local market by 10% when compared to November 2021.
He said last month, the brand (including Volkswagen commercial vehicles), sold 6 006 cars in the local market.
“The Volkswagen T SUV model range was bolstered by the market introduction of the new Tiago, T-Roc, Tiguan Allspace and Tiguan R. In the first 11 months, we sold a total 16 062 T SUVs in the local market, which means 30% of Volkswagen’s overall passenger car sales this year were SUVs,” Knapp said.
The car manufacturer said Polo Vivo was the best-selling Volkswagen model, with 19 445 units sold in the first 11 months of 2022.
“Polo was Volkswagen’s second best-selling vehicle this year, with a total of 14 212 units sold. The T-Cross rounded up Volkswagen’s trio of best-selling vehicles, with 9 695 units sold,” VW SA said.
The coming year will see Volkswagen introducing the new Golf 8 R in the local market, and a refresher of the range-topping Polo Vivo GT derivative. And as if that is not enough, it will also see the highly anticipated new generation Amarok unleased to various dealerships.
