WHILE the country is still processing the scathing remark made by EFF leader, Juilus Malema, when he called the ANC an organisation of murderers, more blood continues to spill thanks to zama zamas.

On Saturday, 29 July, Gauteng police responded to a shooting in Riverlea and nearby Zamimpilo Informal Settlement where five bodies with gunshot wounds were discovered.

According to Gauteng police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo, preliminary investigations suggest that two rival groups of illegal miners were shooting at each in the area, which led to the death of five people.

These gruesome news came just after the EFF was the talk of the country. The party held a rally at the FNB Stadium on Saturday to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

What kept the buzz around the EFF going was when Malema called out the ANC for "killing" Lonmin miners, Thembinkosi Gwelani, Patrick Akhona Jijase, Andries Ntsenyeho, Bonginkosi Yona, Babalo Mtshazi, Jackson Lehupa, Mafolisi Mabiya, Henry Mvuyisi Pato, and Ntandazo Nokhamba.

This was on 16 August 2012 during the Marikana massacre.

Malema gave a speech full of election promises and how they would end years of the ANC's unkept promises come 2024.

Still on politics, Ilva Mackay-Langa was elected ANC Veterans League Secretary General, while Fazel Randera was elected as treasurer-general. The new leadership was announced at the third ANC Veterans League conference over the weekend.

In other shocking news, a viral video emerged of armed gunmen holding a pastor at gunpoint and robbing him of his personal belongings during the live stream in Verulam, north of Durban.

It is said that the incident happened on Thursday, 20 July and no injuries were reported. Investigations into the matter continue.

National Freedom Party councillor Ntombenhle Mchunu was shot dead on Sunday, morning 30 July.

In the world of sports, South Africa cleared the first hurdle in their Netball World Cup 2023 campaign when they beat Wales 61-50 at a packed CTICC in Cape Town.

It was a tough tussle in Johannesburg on Saturday, but this was no match for the Springboks as they bagged their win over Los Pumas.
