THE Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) has detained a 44-year-old police sergeant from Akasia, Tshwane for allegedly murdering her husband.

This follows allegations on social media that a police officer stationed at Dube cop shop shot and killed her 40-year-old husband.

The post received a lot of responses, which revealed the couple's previous domestic troubles. One user reported a recent incident in which the couple was spotted chasing each other in the streets of Soshanguve extension 6.

Another user claimed a disagreement between the police officer and her husband at 00.30am on Sunday, January 28, in which the husband allegedly took the officer's official pistol from her handbag and aimed it at her.

According to Ioid spokeswoman Lizzy Shuping, after attempting to take the pistol from the husband, a tussle followed and the firearm was shot four times, striking the husband.

"The husband sustained four gunshot wounds and later died later in hospital," she said.

Shuping said that Ipid investigators arrested the police officer, and she will appear in court soon.
