MUNICIPAL offices in Strand, Cape Town were forced to shutdown on Monday, 8 January following a shooting incident on the premises.
This after a female municipal worker was shot several times while sitting in her vehicle, a silver Toyota Fortuner. The incident happened in the municipal offices' reserved parking area, forcing the municipality to suspend services for the day.
A source who works at the offices where the incident happened said the woman works for the city’s Department of Environmental Health.
She said the woman had just arrived and was parking the car when the incident happened. She said the 41-year-old woman buried her husband in December 2023, who also died from during a shooting.
“We are shocked because towards Christmas, her husband was shot and killed and now it is her. The husband was in the taxi industry, so we don't know if his death came from the industry. We are shocked. The wife is killed before it's even been a month we buried the husband. It's scary,” said the source.

A witness said the woman was attacked by a lone shooter who had two firearms in his hands. It's alleged that the shooter came from a white Opel Astra that was parked outside the gate of the municipal offices.
He walked into the yard towards the woman's SUV and fired shots while standing at the driver’s window.
Western Cape police spokesman Captain Frederick Van Wyk said cops are still hunting for the killers.
“According to reports, the deceased stopped in the parking lot in her silver Toyota Fortuner at the mentioned address. She was alone in the vehicle. An unknown male approached her on foot, took out two firearms and shot several shots through the driver's side window.
"The deceased was hit several times. The suspect then walked away and got into a white Opel Astra that waited and drove off. The motive for the shooting incident is the subject of the police investigation currently underway,” said Van Wyk.
