TWO taxi drivers were shot and killed in Nyanga, Cape Town, on Wednesday, 17 January, at about 1pm.
A source who spoke to Daily Sun said they heard lots of gunshots close to Holy Cross Anglican Church in Fenyano Street.
The Cape Organisation for Taxi Association (Cata), a taxi organisation, had just concluded a meeting at the venue.
“The gunshots went on for about five minutes. At first, I didn’t know what was going on until my neighbor told me that there was a meeting of taxi drivers and owners. When we went to the scene, two people were bleeding after they were shot inside their vehicles,” said the source.
Cata spokesman Nkululekho Sityebi confirmed the shooting, which he said happened after a meeting of members of his organisation.
“I confirm the incident that happened outside the venue we had gathered at for our members' meeting. The members had just stepped out of the meeting and entered their vehicles when unknown men pounced and shot at our members who were already in their cars."

He said two males were killed and others injured during the incident.
