THE JOBURG M1 highway has been opened after a cash-in-transit suspect was killed on Wednesday, 27 September.
JMPD spokesman Superintendent Xolani Fihla confirmed that the highway had been opened for traffic to flow.
This after the highway was closed since Wednesday night, 27 September, following the shooting between police officials and cash heist suspects.
While the body of the shot suspect lay on the scene for hours due to the investigations that were still happening on the crime scene, the national police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the heist took place at 17:15 on Wednesday in Springs when armed assailants forced a cash van to come to a halt.
"The security guards had just picked up money from various outlets and were on their way back to their base when they were disarmed, and the cash van bombed. Suspects got away with an undisclosed amount of money," Mathe said.

The suspects were travelling in a Toyota Quantum minibus as their escape transport after committing the crime in Springs.
Meanwhile, Police Minister Bheki Cele, who briefed the media on Tuesday, said recent covert operations done by the police have seen multiple arrests and, in some cases, confrontations resulting in the death of suspects who resisted arrest.
The briefing was in response to serious and violent crimes, especially aggravated armed robberies, kidnapping, extortion, and cash-in-transit heists.
"South Africa will not be a haven for criminals, and the long arm of the law will not be selective or kind. The National Joints Operational and Intelligence structure continues to bolster our efforts and ensure the security cluster grows stronger," said Cele.
Cele added that the Crime Intelligence operators, with the work of informants and units within the SAPS continue to clamp down on organised crimes linked to kidnapping, extortion, narcotics, cash in transit, and vehicle and truck hijackings.
