WEDNESDAY, 27 September, was a bad day for cash vans.
One cash van overturned in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni with the driver losing control of the vehicle. But the security guards escorting the van managed to secure the cash despite the accident.
In another incident, another cash van was attacked during the heist on N17, Tonkmeter off-ramp in Springs, also in Ekurhuleni.
During the attack, one suspect was shot dead, and two others were arrested, while a cop is currently recovering in the hospital.
The vans were apparently coming from collecting cash. One was from Tsakane mall when it overturned in Mponeng Park.
People nearby rushed to lay their hands on the cash, but the guards were there to stop them.

Street vendors selling nearby said it was strange how the van overturned.
"It looks like they were running away from something and we heard a loud sound, and the van jumped over those barriers and landed on the other side," said a vendor pointing the park.
Lerato Monyane of Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department said the driver and three security guards were injured.
In Springs, acting national police commissioner Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili commended the swift reaction by Gauteng police for tracing and apprehending cash-in-transit suspects within three hours of the commission of the crime.
The heist took place on Wednesday on N17 when armed suspects forced a cash van to come to a halt.
"The security guards had just picked up money from various outlets and were on their way back to their base when they were disarmed and the cash van bombed," said Brigadier Athlenda Mathe.
She said the suspects got away with an undisclosed amount of cash but three of the suspects were later arrested near Gold Reef City after fleeing scene.
Three assault rifles with magazines were recovered and cops are looking for two more suspects.
