A cash-in-transit heist accused is set to rot in jail after he was sentenced by the Kempton Park Regional Court on 20 October.
Goodenough Ntshongwane (39) was found guilty and sentenced on five counts of unlawful possession of prohibited firearms and three counts of unlawful possession of ammunition.
Police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Bonnie Nxumalo said the Hawks conducted a multidisciplinary operation after receiving information of a suspect who was in possession of firearms in Birchleigh, Kempton Park.
Nxumalo said upon arrival at Ntshongwane’s residence, police found an R4 fully automatic rifle, a LM5 semi-automatic rifle, Dashprod semi-automatic rifle, two 9mm pistols and over 400 ammunitions of different calibres.
“Ntshongwane was on 12 March 2018 arrested, firearms and ammunition were seized for further investigation.
“During the investigation, it was discovered that the firearms were reportedly utilised in different cash-in-transit (CIT) robberies in December 2016 at Pienaar in the Mpumalanga province,” Nxumalo said.
She said the accused was also linked to heists which took place in October 2017 at Mmakau and January 2017 in Katlehong.
Following numerous court cases, Ntshongwane was sentenced to 22 years in prison.
