THE M1 highway in Joburg has been closed after cash-in-transit suspects were killed.
The highway remains blocked off in both directions between Xavier Street and Booysens Road next to Gold Reef City due to a crime scene following a shoot-out between cops and cash-in-transit heist robbers on Wednesday, 27 September, after 5pm.
JMPD spokesman Superintendent Xolani Fihla said that the traffic on the M1 North is being diverted to Xavier Street, and traffic on the M1 South is being diverted to Booysens Road.

“We are seeing heavy congestion on the M1 North. The SAPS are still processing the scene, which is the reason for the closure. We are urging motorists to use alternative routes such as Soweto Highway, Nasrec Road, and N12 joining Kliprivier Drive,” said Fihla.
The Gauteng police have launched a manhunt for suspects linked to the cash-in-transit heist in Springs.
Police said a group of heavily armed men ambushed a cash van, disarmed the security guards, and bombed the vehicle ON Wednesday.
The shoot-out between the police and suspects led to some suspects being killed, two arrested, and one police officer wounded.
