Suspect dies in shoot-out, two bust!

EASTERN CAPE police arrested two suspects who were found in possession of firearms and a hijacked VW Polo in Ngcobo on Thursday, 3 November.

According to Captain Siphokazi Mawisa, the arrests were made following a robbery in a business place in Dutywa.

Three unknown gunmen allegedly entered the business and demanded money from the female employee.

“They took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene with the vehicle of a client, who was visiting the business,” Mawisa said in a statement.

She added that suspects proceeded in the direction of Ngcobo and police gave chase. They spotted the vehicle in Beyele village, and a shoot-out ensued.

“During the shoot-out, a 35-year-old suspect was fatally wounded and two suspects, both 34, were arrested. Cops recovered two unlicensed firearms with ammunition. A hijacked car and an undisclosed amount of cash were also recovered,” Mawisa said.

She added that a case of aggravated robbery, hijacking as well as possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition were opened for investigation, and that of murder.
