THREE armed suspects were arrested while another accomplice was shot dead during a shoot-out with the police on Saturday, 22 October in Eastern Cape.

According to Captain Siphokazi Mawisa, it is alleged that about five men entered a shop and robbed them of an undisclosed amount of cash, tobacco and cellphones.

“The sixth suspect was waiting in a getaway vehicle. The owner alerted their armed response who gave chase. A shoot-out ensued between the security officials and the suspects, leaving a 31-year-old suspect fatally wounded,” Mawisa said.

She said other suspects fled the scene with the security and police close on their heels.

“Three suspects were arrested in a nearby village. Two firearms with 14 rounds of ammunition and a magazine were confiscated,” Mawisa said.

She said a BMW vehicle that was used in the robbery was also confiscated.

“The suspects aged between 23 and 25 years were arrested and charged for business robbery, possession of prohibited firearms and illegal possession of ammunition,” Mawisa said.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
