FOLLOWING the recent horrific accident that claimed the lives of 16 people on the R579 Motetema Road on Friday, 3 March, Limpopo Premier Stan Mathabatha saw it fit to call on divine intervention.
Mathabatha led a provincial prayer day at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Friday, 31 March, to seek divine intervention to reduce the number of fatal road accidents, GBV and femicide, drug abuse, as well as other forms of social ills in the province.
Hundreds of congregants from various churches, including residents, gathered for the prayer session.
Pastor Doctor Ledwaba of Zion Christian Church opened the session with prayer.
Transport MEC Florence Radzilani said that the premier asked for this prayer because social ills affected all areas of government.
“This is an important event because we pray for our province. There is no peace, and our people are dying like flies every day. Four women were murdered in the province in the past two weeks," said Radzilani.
Mathabatha believes that their prayers were answered with showers from above. He said they felt that the day was fit to gather in one place and pray with one voice.
Peter Maeko (41) wished that the prayer session could be continuous.
“It should also be done in cities, townships and villages because innocent lives are lost. They should also pray for the municipalities, so that they provide service delivery to people more quickly," he said.
