Speaker, Mncedi Ndzwanana convened a council sitting at the Tshwane House to elect a new mayor for the City of Tshwane on Tuesday, 28 March.
United Africans Transformation (UAT) leader, Abel Tau, led a picket outside together with his members while the proceedings were happening.
Tau said that they call on the premier of Gauteng, Panyaza Lesufi and Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) MEC, Mzi Khumalo, to place the City of Tshwane under Provincial administration.
“In a desperate attempt to illegally remove a democratically elected speaker of council, the DA and its partners abused section 29 (1) of the Municipal Structures Act which allows for the majority of councilors to call for a council meeting through a petition,” Tau said.
He said the DA and its partners had hoped to get away with this despicable act.

“Their desperation and disregard for proper council processes and the law saw them push for this fake petition to be submitted and a meeting called on Saturday, 25 March, violating another section of the systems Act which is clear that a notice of a meeting cannot go out on Saturday at 15h00,” he said.
He said the UAT has written to the Premier of Gauteng, Panyaza Lesufi MPL and COGTA MEC Mzi Khumalo MPL requesting them to invoke section 139 of the constitution, and place the municipality under Provincial administration in the interest of service delivery in Tshwane.
“It is very clear that the only solution at this point is the intervention by the Provincial Government. The DA and its partners have failed," he said.
He said that services have come to a standstill in Tshwane.
“You have people in informal settlements who blocked the N4 complaining about the fact that they have not been getting water,” he said.
Tau said the city has collapsed completely.
“We are saying that the provincial government must just accept and save this city,” he said.
DA Tshwane Caucus leader, Cilliers Brink said that Abel Tau has no proof of these allegations. He is just repeating what he is hearing from the ANC-EFF coalition, because he has nothing of his own to say.
"In fact, there is no such party as the UAT in the Tshwane Council. So, the question is why is this person getting attention? We know that he is angry with the multi-party coalition, because ActionSA fired his wife Nkele Molapo. He must deal with his own household problems, and not to try make politics out of it," said Brink.
