ON Friday, 17 November, Orkney Magistrates Court postponed the case against Prophet Tebogo Sepale (43), a suspended councillor of Matlosana Local Municipality.

His trial was postponed to 24 November by Magistrate Benjamin Letsholo in the presence of prosecutor Advocate Riekie Krause.

Sepale had been in custody since his arrest in May this year. He's allegedly still earning a salary as a local councillor.

The magistrate said he would decide his fate after he testified as a witness.

Sepale is currently facing 11 charges, two of rape, three of rape of a child, one of producing pornographic material, four of rape and one of sexual intimidation. The state may add more charges if the matter goes to a higher court.

His appearance in court stems from a police report stating that the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) department in Klerksdorp is investigating a case of crimen injuria and two separate cases of rape after they were reported at Kanana Police Station.

In one of the cases, the suspect is alleged to have exchanged nude photographs with the complainant.

In the second, separate case involving the same suspect, an allegation of rape was made by the parents of two boys, aged 15 and 17, on Saturday 06 May 2023.

He remains in police custody pending a decision on his application for bail.
