THE Potchefstroom Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit arrested a 38-year-old woman for assault.
The woman was bust in Oudedorp outside Potchefstroom in the North West on Sunday, 24 December 2023.
According to provincial police spokeswoman Lieutenant-Colonel Amanda Funani, the suspect was arrested after she forcibly pushed a bottle onto the 15-year-old girl's private parts.
"It's alleged that the suspect and the victim had an argument over alcohol and a fight ensued. Following the incident, the victim was seriously injured and admitted to a local hospital," she said.
She said that North West police commissioner Lieutenant-General Sello Kwena was shocked by the incident and had directed the FCS to refuse bail and ensure that justice was served.
Funani said the suspect is scheduled to appear before the Potchefstroom Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 27 December 2023.

In another case, Funani said members of the Klerksdorp Visible Policing arrested a father and son on Friday, 22 December 2023, at Extension 5, Alabama near Klerksdorp for possession of a suspected stolen vehicle, possession of suspected stolen livestock (four sheep) and livestock theft. She said the suspects were arrested after police followed up on a tip-off about suspected stolen sheep.
"The sheep were eventually found at the address given. Through tattoos, initial investigations linked the sheep to a case of stock theft that was recently registered in Hartbeesfontein," she said.
Funani further said police found a Nissan 1400 bakkie and a Toyota Conquest in the yard. It was established that the vehicles had allegedly been stolen from two different car dealerships in Klerksdorp earlier this month.
The two suspects, aged 39 and 19, were subsequently arrested after failing to provide details of the goods. Kwena congratulated the Klerksdorp police, the Visible Policing Unit, the Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit and the Stock Theft & Endangered Species Unit for their excellent work.
She also thanked members of the community for their active support in the fight against crime. The suspects are expected to appear before the Klerksdorp Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 27 December 2023.
