Suspects behind the raping of a 15-year-old girl will be facing a similar gavel in court.

THE sister of a 15-year-old girl who was allegedly gang-raped has painted a shocking picture of the incident that has left the family torn apart.

According to the sister, who can't be named to protect the identity of the victim, her sister was allegedly raped in the park of the estate they live in.

The incident happened after they had hosted a braai.

She told Daily Sun that attempts to track down the suspects led them to some estate where she confronted one of them, and he confirmed that the rape had been planned by one of the suspects.

"After following leads on tracking the suspects, one of the boys showed us a text of how one of the guys had planned this whole thing under the name "two men" where two men go for two girls," the sister said.

The sister was speaking to Daily Sun outside the Randburg Magistrates Court on Thursday, 21 December, where three teenage boys had appeared for a rape case.

On Wednesday, 20 December, Daily Sun learnt of the news that the grade 9 pupil was allegedly gang-raped on Sunday, 17 December, by suspects at Waterfall in Midrand, Gauteng.

Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed the incident and said that the victim was attending a party in Midrand when the incident happened.

He said the matter was reported to the police on Monday afternoon, 19 December, and the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit immediately attended to the victim.

On Wednesday, the police arrested one of the suspects at his residence in Joburg while the other two handed themselves over to the cops at Midrand Police Station.

When the trio appeared in court on Thursday, the media was barred from proceedings as the matter was held on camera.

After what could have been a three-hour-long proceeding, Gauteng Education spokesman Steve Mabona briefed the media outside the court.

He confirmed that the case against one of the three boys was withdrawn, leaving only two charged with rape and remaining in custody.

According to Mabona, investigations into the matter continue, and the case will return to court on Thursday, 28 December, for the possible release of the two boys.

Mabona said the department will provide support to both the victim and suspects through psychosocial services.

“As a department, we will not take sides. We will always support our children. They're innocent until the court decides otherwise. So, the support will not be that of the victim only, but the accused as well," he said.
