THE National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the sentencing of a 30-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping his niece.
NPA spokeswoman Phindi Mjonondwane said on Friday, 10 November that they welcomed the verdict and applauded Advocate Given Mbedzi and investigating officer Sergeant Dorothy Ntaupane for delivering justice.
This comes after the Randburg Magistrates Court sentenced the accused from Diepsloot to life imprisonment for raping his niece between 2016 and 2020.
"The victim was 10 years old when the incident took place. The accused raped the complainant two to three times a day when his sister, the victim's mum, went to work," Mjonondwane said.

Mjonondwane said the victim's mum brought the complainant to the clinic after noticing that her breasts had become larger. At the clinic, they were told that the complainant was pregnant.
"The mother asked the complainant who had impregnated her, whereupon she told her that the accused had been raping her for over four years, she then filed a complaint against the accused," she said.
The accused was subsequently arrested on 6 October 2020.
In court, the accused pleaded not guilty and showed no remorse.
"In his plea for a harsh sentence, State Advocate Given Mbedzi argued that the accused had abused the position of trust between himself and the complainant and his sister because, as the complainant's uncle, he was the one who had to protect her," Mjonondwane said.
