A TIP-OFF about a planned bank robbery led to the arrest of five suspects in possession of suspected stolen clothes worth R100 000.
The suspects, aged between 30 and 35, were arrested at Mall of the North in Polokwane, Limpopo on Thursday, 9 November.
This after the police received a tip-off about a planned bank robbery. While the police were strategically placed, they noticed suspicious movements of various people going up and down into a white Toyota Corolla in the parking area.
Limpopo police spokesman Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said the vehicle was tested and found to be rented.
He said after the shops closed, the police approached the vehicle with five occupants as it was about to drive out.
"They searched it and found new items including clothes from different stores. The occupants of the vehicle failed to produce purchase receipts or any reasonable proof about the items," he said.
Mashaba said the managers of the identified stores were immediately notified and called to the scene.
"They then confirmed that the items are indeed stolen from their stores and some of them were not yet aware," he said.
