COPS have confirmed that lawyer Dominic Mjiyako who represented accused two, Bongani Ntanzi in the Senzo Meyiwa trial has resigned as a member of the police service.
The five men, who are currently on trial within a trial in the North Gauteng High Court, are accused of killing former Bafana Bafana star Meyiwa in 2014 when he had visited his then girlfriend Kelly Khumalo.
Police spokeswoman Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said he resigned in 2016 in relation to a robbery.

“The South African Police Service (SAPS) wishes to place it on record that Mr Ntokozo Mjiyako was a member of the SAPS. He was dishonorably discharged from the Service in 2016. At the time of his resignation, the SAPS had initiated disciplinary proceedings into allegations against him where he was a suspect in a robbery with a firearm case that was possibly linked to a truck hijacking,” she said.
She further stated that Mjiyako resigned before the matter was finalised.
“He resigned before finalisation of the disciplinary case. This is regarded as a dishonorable discharge. The individual is no longer a member of the SAPS, and no further comment will be provided on this matter,” she said.
On Wednesday, lead investigator Brigadier Bongani Gininda said he didn’t know Mjiyako until the murder accused were arrested. This was despite Advocate Zandile Mshololo, who represented accused five, highlighting that Mjiyako was part of Gininda's crime investigating unit.
