THE Patriotic Alliance (PA) has become the thorn on the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the African National Congress (ANC) side.

This after the PA won two wards from the parties during the highly contested by-elections.

The elections were held on Wednesday 24 April, in 11 municipalities, in the Eastern Cape, Gauteng, Limpopo, North West, Northern Cape and the Western Cape.

While the PA won two new seats, the ANC retained three seats and won one more seat, while the DA retained three of its seats and won one seat, and the Cederberg First Residents (CeFRA) won one seat.

Meanwhile the uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) Party, which was contesting in the Limpopo and Eastern Cape for the first time, fell on the bottom, by only receiving 2% of the votes.

Reacting to the win, PA said this has again proved that DA is “Blue Liars” as they did not even have the courage to contest Ward 9 in Oudtshoorn.

PA deputy secretary-general Meshé Habana said the DA’s hatred and fear of the PA was so overwhelming that DA leaders were hoping for an ANC win and were asking their members to campaign for the ANC and to vote ANC.

“They didn’t stop there but even produced fliers trying to popularise the untruth that the PA is an ‘ANC lite’ and that a vote for the PA is a vote for the ANC. Our two-thirds victory in Oudtshoorn over the ANC demonstrates how big the DA’s lie has become.

“This lie has become their entire campaign tool, and they've been repeating it for nearly a year and a half. But it cannot be true because not only did we defeat the ANC in Oudtshoorn, but we also initiated the by-election by welcoming the ANC’s former ward councillor and former mayor, Chad Louw, into the PA family,” she said.

DA Eastern Cape Leader Andrew Whitfield said their win in the ward in the Blue Crane Route Municipality is a victory for the residents of the municipality.

He said the people of Pearston are sick and tired of living without water and the lack of services delivery, adding that they've sent a strong signal to the ANC in the Eastern Cape that they are fed-up of their broken promises and have endorsed the DA’s record of delivery and good governance.
