A TOTAL of eight lives have been lost in the recent devastating floods that hit KZN.
The heavy rain on Saturday, January 13, resulted in flooding, and more rain was expected in the northern parts of the province on Tuesday evening, 16 January.
These rains have brought nothing but heartache and panic to many residents.
Sakhisizwe Dlamini, a resident from Tongaat in Durban, told Daily Sun that it's sad that lives are lost during these floods.
"We no longer enjoy rain because we fear the damage it might cause. When it rains, we sleep with one eye open. It's really bad," he said.
Another resident, Thabisile Mngomezulu, expressed concern that more rain would lead to more deaths.

Among the eight people who lost their lives are gogo Ncamisile Zungu and her grandson Selu Zungu (40) from Zwelisha in Verulam. They were asleep in their house when it collapsed on top of them.
Roads and infrastructure have been severely affected, with mudslides adding to the challenges. Coastal areas such as La Lucia and uMhlanga Rocks were also greatly affected.
The KZN Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs spokesman, Siboniso Mngadi, confirmed that so far eight people have died.
Mngani also warned the residents about the level 2 severe thunderstorms expected in the northern parts of the province on Tuesday evening until midnight, 16 January.
He said according to the South African Weather Services forecast, some of the two areas that may be affected include Abaqulusi and Alfred Duma.
Mngani said residents are advised to avoid crossing swollen rivers.
