THE Economic Freedoms Fighters(EFF) in the Free State have launched an intensive fight against irresponsible fathers who don't maintain their children.
According to the EFF, the majority of homeless children who were stranded on the streets and participated in criminal activities were those whose fathers had turned their backs on them.
Addressing party members in Phuthaditjhaba Multipurpose Hall on Monday, 4 December, EFF provincial secretary Malefane Msimanga made it clear that party MPs were going to propose in Parliament to make it law that fathers who have failed to pay papgeld must be blacklisted and the system must restrict them from purchasing unnecessary things.

"We have launched an intensive fight against irresponsible fathers. We're calling on Parliament to introduce a law that will blacklist perpetrators who don't pay papgeld.
"The law should be designed to reject credits of perpetrators. Even if they want to buy a car, house or to spoil their nyatsis, the system must detect whether they have paid for their kids or not. They should not be afforded credit without maintaining their kids.
“We call on baby daddies to stop spoiling nyatsis and pay papgeld," he said.
Msimanga said the increasing number of homeless children would decrease because food and clothes would be provided for kids.
He further warned court officials to refrain from corruption and stealing maintenance money.
"We have received many complaints about court officials who steal maintenance money. We won't allow such behaviour. We need a responsible society," said Msimanga.
