Cops bust a thug with an unlicenced firearm.

A SUSPECT is under police guard at the hospital.  

This after he was shot and wounded on Friday, 1 December in Thokoza, Ekurhuleni. 

According to Captain Neldah Sekgobela, a constable attached to the Thokoza Police Station received information regarding the suspect with an unlicenced firearm near Khuthuza Hostel Block G. 

"Cops went to the address and on arrival, the suspect allegedly pointed at the member with the firearm in an attempt to shoot. 

"But the member managed to take out his firearm and shot the suspect first in the upper body.  

"The suspect was taken to the Thelle Mogoerane Hospital under the police guard, and the firearm was seized," said Sekgobela. 

Meanwhile, Sekgobela said Operations Shanela remains steadfast in stabilising crime in the Ekurhuleni district.

She said the operations conducted from 1 to 3 December managed to reduce crimes, especially in hotspot areas. 

She said 347 suspects were arrested during the operations executed over the weekend within Ekurhuleni Policing precincts. 

Sekgobela said in Primrose, Germiston, on Friday, 117 suspects were nabbed for illegal mining and charged for being undocumented during the operations. 

She said cops confiscated the zama zamas equipment, including 165 pendukas, 32 water pumps, 28 generators, 18 crush pots, and 24 blasting cartridges. 

They also confiscated six denoting fuses, 53 connector fuses, and four drill machines. 

"A total of 196 of the suspects were arrested by the detectives during their tracing operations. On Saturday, 2 December, 120 were nabbed for contact crime, 44 for other serious crime, nine for warrant of arrest, while 20 of the suspects were nabbed for domestic violence issues," Sekgobela said.
