THE Randburg Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 20 March, postponed the case against the five men accused of burning and killing seven people in Diepsloot in December to 5 June.
The group of men were arrested after they attacked people they suspected of committing gruesome crimes in the kasi on 2 December 2023.
The court postponed the case because the State is still investigating the matter.
The lawyer for accused three and four, Joseph Lekotla, said they remain ready to defend the accused.
“The State requested postponement so they can prepare,” he said.

“Last time the case was postponed for the docket, it was postponed to finalize their investigation but as a defence we are ready as soon they are done, they will provide disclosure of the docket then we can take it from there,” said Lekotla.
Diepsloot community leader, Doctor Chabalala, said despite the postponements, the morale of the community is still high.
“The morale is still high, the issue here is about the finances for the legal team because we are paying them very well,” he said.
He also said crime in Diepsloot remains high.
“We are appealing to the community to stay indoors when it’s dark because it’s not safe in Diepsloot,” Doctor said.
