LAW enforcement officers in Cape Town found several litres of fong kong booze in Khayelitsha on Friday, 5 January.
Officers who were on patrol on Oscar Mpetha Road saw a silver Suzuki that looked heavily loaded although there were only two occupants in it. The officers stopped the car, searched it and found several containers of booze.
“The vehicle seemed heavily loaded but had only two occupants which seemed odd and raised the officers' suspicion. The officers then pulled the car over and found 8x25 litre sealed canisters containing what they thought were chemicals. The driver claimed it was water,” said Law Enforcement spokesman Wayne Dyason.
He said the officers took the vehicle to Harare cop shop before proceeding with the two suspects to their residence where they made more discoveries.
At the house, they found 279 of 750ml bottles of Old Buck gin, two 750ml of Gordon's gin, one 750ml of Jameson whiskey and another of Smirnoff vodka.

Dyason said officers also found 17 containers of chemicals in 25-litre containers and one 20-litre container of chemicals. As they searched further, officers discovered nine large canvas bags of empty Old Buck and Gordon's gin 750ml bottles, three full boxes of new gin bottle caps, one large bag of new gin bottle caps, a plastic bag of stickers, labels for Gordon's and Old buck gin and 50 folded gin cardboard boxes.
They also confiscated R2 750 in cash.
Dyason said the suspects were detained and charged with dealing in liquor without a liquor licence and manufacturing and bottling alcohol without a liquor licence.
