THE case against the man accused of killing the sister of former Orlando Pirates star Bennet Chenene has been postponed to Friday, 6 October.

Sizwe Buthelezi appeared in the Vereeniging Magistrates Court on Friday, 29 September. The case was postpone as his lawyer said he wanted to study the docket and meet the accused's family.

Buthelezi is facing a murder charge after he allegedly brutally murdered Nomvula Chenene and buried her in a shallow grave at lake side near Orange Farm.

Sidwell Lengatsa from Vaal LGBTI, a local rights group, told Daily Sun they were not happy with how the court always postponed the case.

”We got to a point where we asked ourselves, 'what now?' as last week Thursday the 21st of September we were at court and the case was remanded to Friday the 29th of September 2023 and again on Friday the case was again remanded to the 6th of October 2023 because Sizwe Buthelezi got a new representative.”

Lengatsa said it took them a long to time find the body of their beloved Nomvula and burying her was also a struggle.

"Now also the court also keeps on remanding the case," he said.

Lengatsa said the pain the family was in was too much to bear. He said they wanted to closure and for the accused to get what he deserves.

“The impact this case has had upon the people of the Vaal is too much. Vaal, along with Orange Farm, have turned to be the homes of murderers when it comes to LGBTQIA people. We hope one day justice will be served. We need a bill that is specifically for the protection of the LGBTQIA that is put into law and mentions the crimes committed against this community as well as the standards and procedures to be followed by law enforcement agencies, he said.

Bennet and his mother left the court with heartbroken and disappointed. Chenene said it was painful to see people wasting their last money every month going to court for a case that is always postponed.

Nomvula was laid on 8 July 2023 after her decomposed body was found in a shallow grave in a shack on 25 March 2023 after she went missing in December 2022.
