THE Apostolic Church of Christ in Soweto is making a difference by catering for the needy through their soup kitchen.

The church believes that charity begins at home. They had a soup kitchen event about bringing the gospel principles into practice and catered for 167 community members.

The event was held at Snake Park, Doornkop Soweto, a park next to Mayibuye Primary School, on Saturday, 5 August.

The vision behind this initiative was to give back to the community, more especially to those who are in need.

“We are an NPO aiming to have an event like this every month. This is our first event held by the Apostolic Church of Christ (ACC). We are living according to the word of God, where Christ said, ‘I was hungry, and you fed me’.

"We believe that the gospel is more than preaching and teaching but to put the principles into action,” said deputy chairwoman at ACC, Elizabeth Menge Malise.

She told Daily Sun that this was their first event. Due to a lack of resources, we will host such events monthly. However, as the church grows, we intend to have such events weekly, then daily,” Malise said.

They catered for 67 adults and 100 Children, and people were grateful and expressed the desire for more of such offerings.

Gogo Leah Chiloane said she is grateful that within the community, there are still people who have great hearts and are willing to share the little that they have with other people.

Gogo Mariah Peloeng said she is grateful.

“This means a lot to us. I really appreciate their efforts. May God bless them even more so that they become blessings,” she added.
