NOTINMYNAME shows love to the community during the chilly weather.

The non-governmental organisation (NGO) gave the community of Mamelodi West in Tshwane soup and bread in the chilly weather to help them keep warm.

The organisation said that they would be doing it in different areas in Tshwane, but first, they wanted to start with their community. As the saying goes, charity begins at home.

The NotInMyName was led by its treasury general, Bongani Skosana and secretary general, Themba Masango on Tuesday, 11 July.

According to Masango, they did this because of the freezing weather.

"We saw it important to remember those who are less fortunate by giving them soup and bread in freezing weather," he said.

He said they are providing a soup kitchen in a neighbourhood they grew up in. "This is an act of love and passion. We want to at least keep someone warm in our neighbourhood," he said.

Masango said he's grateful to their partner, Shoprite.

He said both he and Skosana are from the same Kasi.

"Before feeding people in other areas, it's important to start at home and then move to other areas," he said.

Masango is calling other South Africans to come on board and partner with them and even help with blankets and clothes.

He said their partner, the retail giant, is the one that cooks food.

He said that they catered to about 1000 people.

Thabile Maditsi (36) said: "It's very cold and my happy that me and my kids will enjoy the soup."

Phumzile Magagula (49) said: "I'm thankful for their generosity. I hope they can continue touching lives with food."

The residents said that they enjoyed the soup given that it's freezing these days.
