MUZI Sibiya, who is accused number one in the murder case of Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, Senzo Meyiwa, wants a trial within a trial.
This emerged on Monday, 4 March during proceedings in North Gauteng High Court. Sibiya’s new lawyer, Thulani Mngomezulu told the court that his client instructed him to bring a new application and re-open the case.
"He (Sibiya) instructed me that I must bring an application to re-open the defense case on his behalf and call those witnesses," he said.
He said he planned to call three police officers, Vincent Leshabane, Shadrack Sibiya and Meshack Makhubo to cross-examine them.

Mngomezulu also said the Legal Aid Board will not be paying for his legal fees in a trial within a trial if he represented Sibiya.
"I was called by his uncle, who informed me they still require my services. They will rather terminate the services of Legal Aid and pay me privately," he said.
Sibiya has also terminated the services of his instructing attorney, Sipho Ramosepele and is now being represented by Mngomezulu.
Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng granted a postponement for Wednesday, 6 March. He said the postponement would allow Mngomezulu to consult with the witnesses and prepare for the case.
