MUSA KHAWULA appeared in the Vredenburg Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 21 February, about 24 hours later than the day he was supposed to.

On Tuesday, 20 February, the Vredenburg Magistrates Court provisionally forfeited his bail after he pulled a no-show at court.

This was the second time in a row that Musa failed to appear in court, following another no-show on 23 January, when a warrant of arrest was issued against him.

Western Cape National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesman Eric Ntabazalila told Daily Sun that Musa arrived in court on Wednesday morning.

He explained his reasons to the court for his no-show, and his bail that was provisionally withdrawn was reinstated and the warrant of arrest set aside.

The matter was remanded to 30 May for a plea and trial.

“Please, note that Khawula appeared in court today, where he explained that he had transport problems, and that's the reason he was unable to attend court yesterday. The court accepted the explanation, and his matter was postponed until the date as indicated above,” said Ntabazalila.

On Tuesday, 20 February, the day Musa was supposed to appear, the court orderly called his name, but he was nowhere to be found.

The court continued with other cases, and two hours later, around 11am, called Musa's name again, and he was nowhere to be found.

His lawyer was also not present, but the court continued with the case in their absence.

Presiding Magistrate Paulette Da Rocha-Boltney decided to allow Musa to show up, and if he failed, he would be locked up and brought to attend the court case from jail.

Previously, the magistrate expressed her frustration about the delays in Musa’s case.

Musa faces a murder charge for allegedly stabbing his ex-boyfriend, Wandile Khambule, to death in March 2022 in Vredenburg.

On the day of the incident, it's alleged that Musa went to Wandile's girlfriend's house, where they were having fun.

It's alleged that the two former lovebirds argued in the house over an undisclosed matter.

The girlfriend asked them to go outside so they could "fix their issues", but a few moments later, she heard people scream, asking Musa not to stab Wandile.

Wandile allegedly ran for his life when Musa chased and stabbed him.
