UZALO actor Othembele Nomgca recently got a role in a new series called 1802: Love Defies Time.
As if that wasn't enough, Othembele, who plays Bobo on Uzalo, graduated with a postgraduate diploma in drama and production studies at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) on Tuesday, 30 May.
The 22-year-old actor from Flagstaff in the Eastern Cape said the journey wasn't easy, but he eventually obtained his second qualification.
“When I registered at DUT, I was still a young man from a rural area in a big city. It was a big challenge trying to discipline myself.
“I constantly reminded myself of what I wanted in life and pushed hard in my studies," said Othembele.

He said he auditioned for Uzalo in 2020 while studying at DUT and to his surprise, he got the role.
“It was a small role at first, but they liked my Xhosa accent and requested that I come back for more shots. That's how I got the role.
“I haven't been shooting for Uzalo for some time because I’m on a new show called 1802: Love Defies Time by Lulu Hela, shot in Joburg," Othembele said.
He said he is excited to obtain his second qualification as he feels that passion alone will not get artists far.
Othembele plans to do more than just being an actor, saying his other interests are in writing, producing and creating job opportunities for others.
“This is my life, and this is what puts food on my table. I felt I should do the right thing and further my studies because no one can be a professional without the necessary education.
“We must respect the art, so I'm putting a price on it. You must have a certificate that you can be proud, knowing very well that you've also worked hard to attain it,” he said.
