A FORMER Miss SunBabe has started Miss Capital City SA to allow models to showcase their beauty and talent.

Genivar Mmushi (27) known as Xaba, a 2014 Miss SunBabe winner, said this is an incredible opportunity for her as she was crowned Miss Africa Continent in 2016.

The Tshwane-based model said what inspired her to start Miss Capital City SA was after she realised that the capital city, Tshwane, lacked beauty queens and wanted to provide a stepping stone for aspiring contestants who aimed to participate in national pageants.

"It occurred to me that it would be meaningful if models began their journey by representing their townships through local pageants. I aim to create a platform where talented individuals could showcase their beauty, intelligence and cultural heritage while fostering a sense of pride and unity," she said.

Genivar, originally from Phuthaditjhaba in the Free State, said the pageant is an institution that aims to empower and inspire young women by providing them with a platform to voice their opinions.

"This initiative was trademarked in 2016. I have been praying and asking for the right direction. I waited for the right moment," she said.

The former Bona Retsang presenter said Miss Capital City SA would benefit the community in many ways, providing skills training as an institution of excellence.

She said the pageant would address issues such as drug usage and teenage pregnancy.

"I feel good because I am making a comeback. This industry is cruel, although I'm excited to create leaders and change-makers," she said.

Genivar said everyone is welcome to participate in the pageant.

"As a young black woman, I'm driven to break barriers and inspire others to reach their full potential. My vision has paved the way for aspiring young women to showcase their talent," she said.

Genivar said the pageant will be launched in Tshwane soon.
