MRS Grand South Africa finalist Unathi Mbangeni Mdolo (37) entered the pageant to rediscover her personality.

She said she wants to build her own strength, gain confidence as well as raise her self-esteem and contribute meaningfully to society while making a difference.

Unathi, who is based at Fort Cox Agriculture and Forestry Training Institute at Middledrift in the Eastern Cape, was nominated as the finalist in March 2023.

She told Daily Sun that she's very excited and proud of herself, adding that it has always been her dream to enter national and international beauty pageants.

Unathi, who's originally from Butterworth in the Eastern Cape, said that the challenge she's facing as a finalist is that it's compulsory to raise R35 000 from sponsorships but she has been rejected by many people.

"I'm an extra ordinary woman who embodies the true sense of beauty, grace and compassion. I love my bubbly personality that allows me to interact with people at all levels," she said.

Her advice to those who wish to be part of the pageants in future is that participating in a pageant is not about winning, it’s about personal growth, self-discovery, and making a positive impact.

“Furthermore, I enjoy the experience, embrace the opportunities it presents, and use it as a platform to inspire others and create meaningful change.  I'm the face of the Institute and an Asset Management Officer at Fort Cox Agriculture and Forestry Training Institute. I am currently busy with my research as I am doing my final honours degree semester in supply chain management," said Unathi.

She said she's grateful to her family, colleagues, friends and community for their continued support.

Unathi is also a member of World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, a movement which empowers girls and women. She said she always strives to be a good role model to young people, adding that she's happily married to Siyabonga Mdolo and they have two sons. She is also a professional Latin American and Ballroom Dancer.

She said the finals of the Mrs Grand South Africa will take place in October 2023 in Joburg.
