THE Crown Gospel Music Awards are coming up and the gospel fraternity is already disappointed by the nominations.
The awards ceremony is set to take place on 27 November at the Durban ICC.
Top gospel artists told Daily Sun they entered the competition but were shocked and disappointed when they were not nominated.
One of those artists is Paul “Paul K” Kganyago.

This was his fourth attempt and he has never won any award from this competition.
“This time I entered in four categories – Best Praise, Best Gospel Song, Best Gospel Male and Best Traditional Gospel. All my entries were rejected. I didn’t know until they announced the final results. To say I’m disappointed and shocked is an understatement. I don’t know why I wasn’t nominated and I don’t know where I lacked. I am not even going to follow up or ask questions because I voluntarily entered this competition. So, I am not blaming anyone but myself,” said Paul K.
Another gospel artist said: “I entered the awards but I wasn’t nominated. I am hurt and disappointed because I went all out and I know people loved my work. A nomination would have boosted my music career. Unfortunately I don’t even know where I went wrong and for me that’s a big problem. I am not sure if I’ll ever have the appetite to enter this competition again,” said the artist.
The nominations were announced on 14 October.
Gospel fans were also not impressed with the nomination list. They argued that this competition has lost its value.
In support of their claim they mentioned names of gospel artists who should have been included.
Mahlako Pushy Maserumule asked: “Can I ask? Are Crown Gospel Music Awards meant for up-and-coming/developing artists? Most of their nominees and winners are always not the well-known in the gospel industry. In short, who are these people?”
Martina Mmatlou Kganyago commented: “I don’t see Paul K for best traditional gospel song. Kante how does the nomination process work?”

Kenneth Khutlang Phiri said: “Where are the likes of Tshwane Gospel Choir, Lucas Maloma, Shibu Molomo, Kgaugelo Kekana, Bishop Andries, Paul K, Mohlaphuli Brothers? Who makes this selection? I think they just favour a few. The selection process is flawed.”
Pakade Zee Mafaku said: “Eastern Cape has been sabotaged, where is Betusile Mcinga. I hate the fact that you preach gospel, yet you lie.”
Daily Sun has repeatedly tried to get founder Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule’s comment but she has refused to respond.
