Award-winning gospel artist Paul “Paul K” Kganyago (40) has every reason to be happy.
His latest album, In the Beginning, has been nominated for Best Traditional Faith Music Album at the South African Music Awards (SAMAs).
This is his third nomination at the SAMAs.
This album was released last year in November and it has 12 songs. “This is one of my greatest projects and people can’t get over it.
“For this reason, I decided to take this album on tour which started in Tshwane in May.
“I’m happy with the people’s reception and even more excited about the nomination. It’s a big deal for me,” said Paul K.
The SAMA nomination is one of his many accolades.
In 2016, his album Ntshware ka Letsoho won Best Live Recorded Album at the Ingoma Awards.

In 2017, his album On My Journey was nominated for Best Album for the SAMAs.
In 2019 his album, Time of God Manifest, received a nomination from SABC Crown Gospel Awards for Best DVD.
Last year, the same album received a double nomination for Best Traditional Song and Best Music Video at the SABC Crown Gospel Awards. The Soshanguve-born singer started singing at age 18.
“I was born and raised in a Christian family.
“My father, who was also a leader of mokhukhu at ZCC in Atteridgeville, inspired me to sing. At the age of 18, I joined a clap-and-tap choir,” he said.
In 2009, he released his debut album, Ngiyosabela, followed by Ungu Jesu and others.
“The second album opened doors for me in the gospel industry,” he said.
. It actually gave me an official footprint in the gospel industry. With this album I traveled to different provinces as well as other African countries,” he said.

“On this album my music had grown so much that I’d started distributing it under a licensed company. The album had twelve songs and it was recorded live. This album also featured other artists including Winnie Mashaba,” he recalled.
“In my gospel career, I’ve worked with many talented gospel artists, including the late Sfiso Ncwane, Winnie Mashaba, and Neyi Zimu. Now I’d like to work with artists from other genres. My dream is to work with Mondli Ngcobo,” he said.
