TIKTOK sensation Mandisa Jakavula, popularly known as Mandz Not Hot, shot to fame after she posted a video with a voiceover speaking Spitori (Pretoria) slang.
Inspired by her kasi, Atteridgeville, west of Tshwane, Mandz Not Hot is making a name for herself.
Most social users loved her videos, and she started trending. Now the 23-year-old is an influencer and makes music.
She shared with Daily Sun how she became popular.
“I started by taking videos on social media during Covid-19. But on the 29th of October 2021, I posted my first of many #ShoDnx vlog in Spitori, which became my new niche,” she said.
She said Tshwane was her biggest inspiration.
“I was inspired by the culture in Pitori, honestly, and I was well aware that it didn’t have enough representation. So, I took it upon myself to put it out there and show the world what life is like that side,” she said.
Mandz Not Hot said she also makes music.

“I am also a musician, but I still am trying to find my feet in that industry. I realised that I didn’t have to rush it. I’m just taking my time finding my sound and who to work with,” she said.
She said what keeps her going is the support she gets.
“I am so grateful to have such amazing supporters out there who always appreciate my craft even when it is ever so changing,” she said.
She said she always wanted to be in the media space growing up.
“I have always wanted the media for myself, even as a child. I was very much inspired by Disney and Nickelodeon stars, especially Ariana Grande, and I have always known I want to be like her. I thought it was going to be via music. Never once did I imagine it would be social media,” she said.
Mandz Not Hot said that October is her anniversary in the industry.
“It is actually my second anniversary of #ShoDnx, so I really urge everyone to be on the lookout on my socials because I plan on going all the way out,” she said.
