The 27-year-old from Witbank in Mpumalanga entered the competition because he just wanted to give it a shot and see what would come out of it.
He said he was grateful and thankful to be voted at the winner.
Thabo was bullied in high school because of how he sounded when he spoke. He then decided to see his voice as a gift to be embraced.
"Winning validated that what made me different, is the same thing that made me special," he said.
Thabo said the best advice he received during the show which kept him going, was to be authentic to himself, and to pray.
“I am authentic for who I am and I am unapologetic, so prayer works,” he said.
Idol’s judge JR said they will not just be signing Thabo to his record label but also Faith and Princess.
"We are excited and our big thing is that we decided to exercise our right to kind of take up all three,” he said.
Premier of Mpumalanga Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane and MEC of Social Development in Mpulanga Blessing Thandi Shongwe, were some of the people from their province who supported the two finalists.
The show had jam-packed guest performances from Rapper Cassper Nyovest, Sipho Hotstix Mabuse, Vusi Nova, PJ Morton and one of the Judges Somizi also gave a performance.
The top 10 contestants also took the stage one last time in what was a spectacular send-off to a beloved show.
Somizi said there was no loser and the two are in good hands. Thembi said idols has given the contestants the opportunity to learn about the industry. JR said the journey of Idols ends, but their journey as artists is only beginning.
