FORMER Idols SA star Zoe Zana is giving another singing competition a shot.

She’s part of Die Kontrak, a singing competition that airs on eExtra every Sunday.

Zoe (29) from Cape Town in the Western Cape got into the industry in 2013 when she was 18 years old, and made it to the top 4 of Idols.

At the time, she became very popular.

She spoke to Daily Sun about Die Kontrak and said she’s grown a lot in the past years.

“Zoe, who was on Idols was a child who just came from high school, had no experience of life or the industry. She didn’t know how to express herself. There was a lot of molding and guidance needed and that’s why I couldn't be sustainable. I didn’t know what to do with the fame and money.

She said her experiences travelling to different countries, facing heartbreak, and enduring life's trials and tribulations have greatly contributed to her personal growth.

"Now I have something to say and a voice that’s backed by depth and experience. I was easier to manipulate. People could tell me what to do when I was 18. Now I know who I am and I'm proud of myself. My voice has also grown. Back then, I was having fun, now, I need to be serious,” she said,

Zoe said over the past eight years, she has travelled and performed internationally and has gained fluency in languages such as French and Arabic.

“I was going back and forth to Morocco and Malaysia. It opened up my mind and taste buds and changed the way I view life. I appreciate South Africa more now,” she said.

The singer is currently in the top 6 of the singing competition.

“The competition has been tight. I expected to have an easier run, but other contestants are giving me a run for my money. But the Afrikaans community has opened up to me and is supporting me a lot. I hope to win the competition, but my ultimate goal has been answered and that’s signing a publishing deal with Sony Music.

“I also have another opportunity I can’t speak about right now. Details about my music and the singing competition will be on my social media,” Zoe said.
