Princess and Thabo were announced the two finalists for the last season of South African Idols.
Princess and Thabo were announced the two finalists for the last season of South African Idols.

THE end of the last season of South African Idols is drawing closer and closer.

Last night, Thabo and Princess were announced as the two finalists at the live show in Fairland in Joburg.

The top three idols had a chance to record their first singles with Idol's judge, Rapper and Producer JR.

Nkosi said having his own single is amazing.

"I still can't believe I have my name on a single and to this professional level. It is amazing and unbelievable, but I am grateful for the opportunity," he said.

He performed his brand-new single for the first time called Khulumela Phansi.

Somizi said nothing is as complex as launching a first single on such a platform.

"Let me tell you, it only takes 10 seconds to know whether a song is a hit or a miss, and I knew it in 11 seconds that this is a hit, and already, Ngikhulumela phansi," he said.

Thembi said the song is not only a hit but a classic song.

"You know how I miss those days when we produced songs that you also sing 5,10, 20 years to come, and this is kind of a song," he said.

JR said he would be biased because he wrote the song and was there when he recorded it.

"I will tell you, one thing people don't know is you literally gave it your all," he said.

Princess followed with her first-ever single, You know I love.

She said when she first heard the song, she was excited.

"I just felt like JR knew exactly what would suit my voice. I really love that he could pick up that I am this type of person, and this is the kind of music I would do," she said.

Thembi said the song was sexy.

"I just want to thank JR for bringing back music," she said.

JR said the whole idea behind the song was to play directly after Summer Walker and Elain.

"I think in that realm, that's gonna be your direct competition. I think your vocal lives very well on that song, and thank you for making it such a sexy performance," he said.

Somizi said the song was beautiful, and he could hear it on the radio.

"Vocally, you gave it a great performance. Now, here is where I am going to be honest, Princess. I think when you do an album neh, be true to yourself. You are innocent, my child. You don't have an ounce of sexiness," he said.

Thabo followed with his brand new song called Isilungu.

He said his experience working with JR was interesting.

"I didn't know what to expect. One of the things I was made to do was sing high. It was a challenge because I was like, am I doing it right? Am I too loud or soft? But he assured me that I am doing a good job," he said

JR said the song is close to his heart.

"You did well. You were a bit nervous. I can understand it's been a long week, lots of rehearsals, too many songs to practise, but I am sure you'll be in your pocket," he said.

Somizi said Thabo is boring because everything he does goes well.

"Remember the time I said Thabo don't ever sing in Isizulu again? It was a training because this song, you killed it. I love it," he said.

Thembi said that she also loved the feel of the song.

"I also want to commend you on your bravery because this genre, you are not really comfortable with it, but you know what, It takes hard work, practising, and if you want this to work, really put in work in it," she said.
