RADIO and TV presenter Thabang Mnisi has bagged a brand-new gig.

The popular presenter will host Soweto TV’s newest addition, 5@5 which airs every Saturday at 5pm.

The 41-year-old spoke to Daily Sun about the show.

“We play five songs from one artist throughout the whole show. We also give insight into the artist. We talk about their journey, achievements, challenges, wins and losses. We feel like there hasn’t been such a show. Most channels usually play people’s songs without them being there. We get to bring those musicians and interview them. So, it’s quite a refreshing and nice show,” he said.

Thabang said the invited musicians are currently fan favourites for a lot of people in Mzansi.

“Xolly Mncwango, Ncebakazi Msoni, Thina Zungu, Takie Ndou, Mpumi Mtsweni and many others will be part of the show.

"The show is basically edutainment. People will get to learn about their favourite gospel artists and get some fun facts about their music,” he said.

Although Thabang owns his TV channel called the Gospel Lifestyle TV channel, he said he felt like this show needed to be on another channel.

“My channel is on another satellite and it’s a 24-hour channel. Plus, Soweto TV isn’t a gospel channel. I own the IP of this show. The reason I work with other channels is that I want to see gospel music growing. It should be big in South Africa, beyond every channel. I’m passionate about it and I want to see the genre advance and occupy space."

“The boss at Soweto TV, Mandla Ncinitwa, identified my contribution to the gospel space and my presenting skill also helped that. He knew that the inside knowledge that I have about the industry and the artist would make the work easy because of the insight I have with the gospels artist and the gospel world at large,” he said.
