New gospel music streaming app Gospel Play aims to take gospel music to a higher level.

The genre is already doing great with a huge fanbase, and Gospel Play founders saw an opportunity to add to its greatness.

It is founded by TV presenter and businessman Thabang Mnisi, Sello Motloung, Tlhake Taoe and Reuben Lekoetje, and it will be launched next month.

Thabang spoke to SunBuzz about the platform and the inspiration behind it.

“Gospel Play is a music streaming app that speaks directly to the gospel market in South Africa and Africa as a whole.

“There’s no platform that focuses and caters solely to gospel, and it is the most bought and loved genre on the continent,” he said.

Thabang said this is also to show that Africans can also invent. “We want to enhance and innovate big things for gospel in Africa.

“We saw a gap, everything is digital now, stores are closed, so we thought to make our own platform that recognises us as gospel lovers. Also, as people who make gospel music, we decided to stick to our loyal market,” he said.

Co-founder Reuben said that they wanted to create opportunities for gospel musicians.

“The platform makes music easily accessible and we made it convenient. It builds the gospel industry platform and gives musicians an opportunity to get their music out there.

“What excites us the most is that young stars will have a space where they can show their music,” he said.
